Istvan Jonyer is a seasoned VC investor at NexStar Partners, which recently closed on a $100 million early-growth fund, and invests in sectors such as AR/VR, Machine Learning, AI, next generation infrastructure, mobile security, IoT and video technologies, among others.

Bruce Schechter is an investor at Band of Angels, Silicon Valley’s oldest angel investment group, and is an active advisor/investor in a variety of tech startups, including Life360 (50M+ users), Proformative, TreasuryCurve, and Simplure.

The event will start with a round-table discussion where our investors will talk about the fundraising process and what it takes to successfully raise funding.

Istvan Jonyer

Principal Investor

NexStar Partners

Prior to joining NexStar Partners ($100M fund) as a Principal Investor, Istvan Jonyer was the Global Head of Device Partnerships for Google TV and a startup advisor focused on product and business strategy for a number of successful venture backed startups. NexStar has recently invested in brands such as Sedona Systems ($13,6M), Vasona Networks ($14.6M), and Cohere Technologies ($35M)

In addition to his work at NexStar Partners, Istvan’s private equity investment experience includes New Venture Partners, Pittsburgh Equity Partners and 3 Rivers Capital.

Istvan started his career as a software design engineer at Nortel Networks, where he delivered features for the Shasta Networks packet data switching node (PDSN), which enabled the Sprint PCS Vision 3G product.

Istvan holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, a PhD in machine learning, and MS and BS degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington.

Bruce Schechter

Band of Angels

Bruce Schechter is an investor at the Band of Angels, Silicon Valley’s oldest angel group.

He is an active advisor/investor in a variety of tech startups, including Life360 (50M+ users), Proformative, TreasuryCurve, and Simplure.

He is also the founder and President Emeritus of the Intel Alumni Network.

Bruce is active in mentoring student entrepreneurs at both Stanford (StartX Accelerator) and Purdue University.

Bruce received a BS in Physics and Math from Purdue University, where he graduated with Highest Honors and Phi Beta Kappa, and he received an MS in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Who Should Attend

Startup founders looking to raise funding. This is an opportunity to pitch a panel of investors and receive constructive, quality feedback that’s specific to your company. This is also a great opportunity for any founder to fine-tune their pitch delivery for a specific time limit, gain further experience holding a mic, and speaking in front of large crowds.

In addition, startup founders and entrepreneurs who are NOT ready to pitch are welcome to attend as audience members. This can be a highly valuable learning experience to better understand the pitch process and what investors look for as well as learn from feedback given by the investor panel, then, apply these learnings to your own startup!

The Pitch Night Format

Free street parking

Abundant street parking is available for free after 6:00 p.m. in downtown San Jose. Streets closest to Founders Floor with free street parking are Santa Clara St., North Market St. and St. John St.

Free parking garage

Founders Floor will provide a 2 hour free parking voucher to the Market & San Pedro Square Parking Garage. This garage is only one block away from Founders Floor. It’s located at 45 N. Market St., between W. Santa Clara St. and W. St. John St. Upon check-in at the Founders Floor event, make sure you ask for the 2 hour free parking voucher.

Public transportation

VTA Light Rail is right outside our building, and runs every 20 minutes making public transportation fast and easy. 　Both the Mountain View-Winchester and the Alum Rock-Santa Teresa VTA light rail stop at the Santa Clara Station(s) which is located just a block away.
